Our new website launches next week, and we start this edition with some information about the transition. Additionally, this week is Digital Citizenship Week, and we want to remind parents about the various ways you can use the Securly Home app to monitor your student's usage of their HCPS-issued devices and make sure they are staying safe. And be sure to check out the list of  sessions offered to parents and guardians this fall through the Division of Family and Community Engagement's Bridge Builders Academy.

More in this edition: A reminder to nominate your favorite principal for a chance to bring in tens of thousands of dollars for your school; last chance to weigh in on what the new Living Building should be named; and a reminder about our Anonymous Alerts reporting tool.

New website design to debut Oct. 29

Our new website launches Oct. 29, and we are so excited for you to see the new look and explore all the user-friendly features!

All HCPS sites will be inaccessible for a period of time during the transition. The anticipated outage is expected to last about an hour, though the transition could take longer.

If you have any questions during the outage, please contact hcpswebdev@henrico.k12.va.us or your school. We appreciate your patience!

Securly Home: More than a weekly email

Henrico County Public Schools is committed to partnering with families to support students' online safety and digital wellness. Through Securly Home, families have tools to stay informed about their child's online activity on their HCPS-issued device and help reinforce healthy digital habits at home.

Already receiving weekly Securly emails? Take the next step!
Many families are familiar with the weekly Securly activity emails, which provide a summary of their child's online activity from the previous week. The free Securly Home app builds on these reports by providing convenient access to additional information and tools, right from your phone!

With the Securly Home app, families can:
  • Stay informed: Receive real-time alerts about websites visited, searches and online activity on your child's HCPS-issued device.
  • Support healthy digital habits: Pause internet access or establish schedules for offline time at home, such as during family time or bedtime.
  • Encourage conversations: Use insights into online activity to talk with children about safe, purposeful and balanced technology use.
  • Access information conveniently: Check activity and manage available settings directly from a mobile device instead of relying only on weekly email reports or a web browser.

What's the difference?
  • Weekly Emails: Provide a snapshot of your child's online activity from the previous week.
  • Securly Home App: Offers a convenient, mobile-friendly experience with more timely activity information and easy access to available home internet management tools.

Get started today!
  1. Download the Securly Home app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Use the email address associated with your child's HCPS school records to access your account.
  3. Explore the app and discover how it can help your family support safe, balanced technology use.
  4. Review this simple guide to help get the most out of Securly Home: Home App Walkthrough (French and Spanish).

Nominate a principal for the REB Awards

There's still time to nominate a principal for the REB Awards for Distinguished Educational Leadership. The deadline to submit a nomination is Nov. 5.

The award recognizes the dedication and hard work of principals who have gone above and beyond to create an exceptional education environment. Principals from Henrico, Chesterfield and Hanover counties and the City of Richmond are eligible, and one nominee from each school division will be honored. Students, families, staff and members of the community are invited to submit nominations.

Honorees receive $20,000 to be used for school initiatives as well as an unrestricted $10,000 cash grant. A runner-up will also be chosen and could receive $10,000 for use toward school projects.

For more information on eligibility criteria and the nomination process, and to submit a nomination, visit cfrichmond.org/receive/scholars-educators/educators/leadership.

The awards were established by the REB Foundation and Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond. Award recipients will be announced in March 2027.

Anonymous Alerts reporting tool available to families, students

October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and HCPS would like to remind families and students of the Anonymous Alerts reporting tool.

The web tool and app allows students, families, staff and community members to easily communicate with school administrators about safety concerns — from threats and bullying to worries about classmates who may be depressed. The tool can also be used to report any suspicious activity.

The system allows for one-way or two-way anonymous encrypted communication between those submitting reports and school division administration and staff members. System users have the option to remain anonymous or reveal their identity when submitting a report.

For more information, or to access the tool, click here.

Weigh in on what HCPS should name the new Living Building

An overhead view of a construction site shows trenches and foundation preparations in the earth.
Henrico County Public Schools is seeking community nominations to help name the new Environmental Education Living Building. Students, families, staff and community members are invited to share ideas for a name that reflects this unique new learning facility and its connection to the HCPS community.

Nominations will be accepted through Oct. 25. Before submitting a nomination, community members are encouraged to review Regulation P9-14-003-R, Naming of Schools and School Facilities, which provides information about the naming process, including criteria and evaluation standards for proposed names.

Community input is an important part of the process and will help inform the superintendent’s recommendation to the School Board. In accordance with HCPS regulation, the School Board has final authority to approve the name of all schools and school facilities.

Submit your nomination through the School Facility Naming Community Nomination Form by Oct. 25 and help identify a meaningful name for this exciting new learning space!
